Rep. Al Green (D-TX) will begin his third attempt to impeach President Trump this week.Green announced his plan to force the House of Representatives to vote on the issue Tuesday, one day after his party's leader, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), made it clear she has no desire to impeach Trump, The Hill reports.Green said Pelosi's stance doesn't matter."The Constitution and the rules allow any one person to bring a vote on impeachment," the Texas Democrat said on C-SPAN.Blavitize your inbox! Join our daily newsletter for fresh stories and breaking news.On Monday, Pelosi said she's against impeaching President Trump because "impeachment is so divisive to the country."The speaker added she might change her mind should Republicans decide impeachment is necessary, something unlikely to happen."I don't think we should go down that path, because it divides the country," Pelosi said. "And he's just not worth it."“If we wait on Republicans — who are not going to buy in — then there won’t be an impeachment," Green said Tuesday. "We should not wait on people who are not coming."The representative added he believes Trump must be removed because he has become a danger to the American people.“It’s not about any one person — it’s really not even about the president as much as it is about what he’s doing," Green said. "It’s about his behavior that is harmful to society.”Green told Politico his only concern is that Pelosi and his fellow Democrats might change House rules that currently allow one person to bring forward an impeachment vote. Even if the rules aren't changed, he would need 218 votes, 152 more votes than his last impeachment measure received. Green's two previous impeachment attempts were put forward before last November's midterm elections; at that time, the Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate. Now that the House has a Democratic majority, Green believes there is a chance his third attempt will be successful.The House can impeach the president on its own, but if it successfully impeaches Trump, it falls to the Republican-controlled Senate, to try the president. On Tuesday, Jan. 29, Rep. Maxine Waters hosted her second annual State of the Union Millennial Media Row. At the event, Blavity spoke with Auntie Maxine about her thoughts on the State of the Black Union, and what we can expect in 2019."Blacks continue to work very hard to have a decent quality of life," Waters, who has represented California in the House since 1991, told Blavity Politics.Waters expressed that she believes Black folks are collectively disappointed, as the current administration seems determined to set us back."We feel that many of the gains that we have made are being undermined," she said, which could refer to a number of divisive issues pioneered by the Trump administration: Its attempts to build a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, its success in separating immigrant children from their families, its recent plan to take civil rights away from students of color and so on.A bold and outspoken opposer of Trump and his administration, Waters talked about the ways in which Trump has incited multiple acts of violence among his supporters across the nation, particularly out of fear that Black people "are somehow doing better than they are doing," or "taking their jobs." Water also discussed the inherent resiliency of Black people, despite a president who has continuously attempted to subvert and sabotage any progress we've made as a people."But we continue to have hope. We continue to work hard. And we continue to believe that we deserve to have a decent quality of life," Waters told Blavity Politics. "We're going to fight for our rights."Never one to hold her tongue in regards to her opinions on Trump and the impact of his presidency on communities of color, Waters bluntly disclosed her thoughts on what she thinks needs to occur in order to hold  this administration accountable for their blatant exhibition of impropriety and negligence."I think he deserves to be impeached. I think the American people need to have louder voices in saying that this is unacceptable, and help drive this membership here in the Congress of the United States toward impeachment," she said.During Rep. Water’s event, Democratic representatives discussed the issues that matter most to people of color in their respective districts and their legislative plans to address these issues, all of which seemed to have a recurring theme. Folks want affordable healthcare and common-sense gun laws. The "impeach Trump" hype train has been moving for some time now. This week, talk of impeachment ended and steps towards impeachment began.Six Democratic members of the House of Representatives introduced five articles to impeach the president, accusing him of violating the Constitution, according to The Hill. The representatives behind the articles are: Steve Cohen (D-TN), Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL), Al Green (D-TX), Marcia Fudge (D-OH), John Yarmuth (D-KY) and Adriano Espaillat (D-NY). “Given the magnitude of the constitutional crisis, there’s no reason for delay," Cohen said, adding according to NBC News, "We have taken this action because of great concerns for the country and our Constitution and our national security and our democracy."What specifically do the representatives think Trump did wrong?First, Trump is being accused of obstructing justice by firing former FBI Director James Comey, which lawmakers believe was done to hinder the Russian probe investigation.Also, Trump is accused of violating the foreign emoluments clause for accepting gifts from foreign governments without the Congress' consent.The representatives also say Trump violated the domestic emoluments clause prohibiting him from profiting from his office. Lastly, he has been accused of undermining two U.S. central institutions in a manner that threatens our democracy: the court and the free press.Representative Brad Sherman (D-CA), called for Trump's impeachment following the Comey firing, but he and may others who have called for impeachment, such as Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) haven't signed on to the current effort.However, Cohen said today that more lawmakers will join this concrete push for impeachment “immediately or soon thereafter.”The Republic National Committee (RNC) responded by calling this new venture a "baseless radical effort." “House Democrats lack a positive message, and are completely unwilling to work across the aisle, so instead they’ve decided to support a baseless radical effort that the vast majority of Americans disagree with," RNC spokesman Michael Ahrens said.Representative Steny Hoyer (D-MD), the minority whip, believes the article of impeachment have been served prematurely. "Do we disagree with the policies? We do. But disagreeing with the policies is not enough to overturn an election, a free and fair election," Hoyer said shortly after Cohen's news conference. "There are a large number of Democrats that believe this president ought to be impeached, we have just a made a judgment that the facts aren’t there to pursue that."Cohen obviously disagrees, but doesn't hold any illusions of the matter going to a vote. "I don't expect the House Judiciary Committee, which is operated like a branch of the administration, to take up hearings," he said, according to CNN. Instead, he hopes to be granted briefings to outline the grievances contained in the articles.Gutiérrez said that no matter what does or does not happen, he felt he had a moral obligation to speak out."I see a crime and I have a responsibility to dial 911 immediately. I don't call and try to reach my consensus with all my neighbors and all my friends and those whose opinion I might seek out," Gutiérrez said.For his part, Cohen said he has no plans to stop or give up. "It's important that we not let the failure of the Republicans stop us from doing what is right."...

President Donald Trump is turning against his own people and the world is watching.Over the past weekend, the nation has been rocked by protests in Charlottesville, Virginia. A coalition of multiple white nationalist groups including the Ku Klux Klan, alt-right, neo-Nazis, Confederate sympathizers and others came into the city to protest the planned removal of a Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee statue.As violence mounted, Trump wavered back and forth in the days following in denouncing the white supremacists at the rally.The bone of contention for many of people in his own party was comments from a press conference on Tuesday claiming that there were good people on the side of the white supremacists. I'm not here to do that," Scott told Vice News. "His comments on Monday were strong. His comments on Tuesday started erasing the comments that were strong. What we want to see from our president is clarity and moral authority. And that moral authority is compromised when Tuesday happens. There's no question about that."This all happens while Trump criticizes and throws his support to Sen.
