DMX's Family To Hold Vigil Outside Of NY Hospital Where Rapper Remains In Critical Condition

Staff members at the hospital also gathered on Sunday to pray for the artist.

DMX's family plans to hold a vigil at the New York hospital where the rapper is currently after suffering from a heart attack on Friday. According to TMZ, the vigil is scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m. eastern standard time at White Plains Hospital.

In a statement released on Sunday, the family asked for prayers, ABC7 reported

"On Friday night, April 2nd, 2021, our brother, son, father, and colleague DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, was admitted to White Plains (NY) Hospital, facing serious health issues," they wrote. "We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges."

Staff members at the hospital also gathered on Sunday to pray for the artist, who was rushed to the critical unit after a drug overdose triggered the heart attack, as Blavity previously reported

While the rapper's fiancée and mother have been allowed to visit their loved one as he remains on life support, his children are expected to fly in to see him. Many of DMX's fans came together outside of the hospital on Sunday and played some of the artist's hit songs while hoping for the best outcome.

The musician's publicist, Matt Oliver, said on Saturday that DMX no longer needed to be on life support. However, Oliver later backtracked on the statement.

Attorney Murray Richman, who has known the 50-year-old entertainer for more than 25 years, said he is very concerned.

"He is in grave condition, whatever that means. That's exactly what I've been told," Richman said. "I pray for him. I know that he's going to hopefully make it. But I'm concerned, I'm very concerned."

The "X Gon' Give It To Ya" rapper has been nominated for multiple Grammy awards. His 1999 album And Then There Was X went platinum five times. As an actor, the New York native was featured in movies such as Romeo Must Die and Cradle 2 the Grave.

The rapper released his last album Undisputed in 2012.
